Take The Plunge (Literally)

Fundraise and abseil for WA kids living with a disability.

When it comes to fundraising, we take the full plunge at Cahoots – literally!

For several years now, Cahoots has been a beneficiary charity in the Central Park Plunge, and we’re doing it again in 2024!

Not sure what the Plunge is? Well, it’s essentially our biggest fundraising event of the year.

Run by Zenith Events, the Central Park Plunge is an opportunity for everyday people (just like you) to abseil 130 metres and 33 floors down Perth’s tallest building in Central Park, and to get there, they just have to fundraise for a chosen charity.

Okay, but why on Earth would anyone want to hang off the side of a building!?

There are loads of reasons why the Plunge is an amazing experience, not just for charity partners like Cahoots, but also for the plunging participants and teams.

It’s an excellent personal challenge, an amazing experience (imagine the view from up there!), a really cool photo op, a wild thrill-seeking encounter, and just a really fun way to raise funds for an organisation that is making a huge difference in the community.

Take it from me (hi, I’m one of the Marketing gals at Cahoots!) I did the Plunge in 2023 and LOVED it!

Previous Plunger Karen McDonough

Some of our other previous plungers also had an incredible experience. Karen McDonough is a three-time plunger as of last year and loves the Plunge because it’s a great way for her to conquer her fear of heights.

“I am literally absolutely petrified of heights! – but I have a body that is able to do things, that others can’t so I want to be able to help others in a way that makes me step outside of my comfort zone,”she said.

She explains that she found out about the Plunge via social media but has since become a massive fan of the work that Cahoots does.

“To be honest, the first year, it was something that just came up on my Facebook and I was like that looks kind of cool. Then as I’ve gotten to know Cahoots, the values, standards, and ethos – I’ve come to love the work you do,” she said.

Karen hopes others take the Plunge for Cahoots both for the experience and the cause.

“I’d encourage everyone who is able to, take the plunge. It’s an experience that will change the way you look at the [building!] Donate because people are doing something scary, for multiple reasons and it is going towards an amazing cause”, she said.

“The first year I did it, I was given a letter that was written by someone who was directly impacted by my decision to plunge. It still gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.”

‘Married At First Sight‘ Star Lyndall Grace

In 2023, Cahoots was also represented by Channel 10’s ‘Married at First Sight’s’ star, Lyndall Grace, who had an amazing time taking the Plunge and fell in love with Cahoots along the way.

“[I took] part for two reasons. First and foremost, because I know how important it is to support charities. Second to that, it’s another once-in-a-lifetime experience I can’t say no to,” she said.

“I [had] never done anything like this before. I have rock-climbed, in a safe gym, that might’ve been three stories high.

“I think it’s an extreme privilege to have any sort of public platform. Make it yours, show the world who you are, and give back. You never know how much of an impact you can make.”

She explained how it was important for her to represent an organisation like Cahoots.

“Cahoots is a wonderful, fun charity raising money to support children with disabilities. Having been one myself, and met and connected with so many others, their community holds the most special place in my heart and it deserves to be supported and in the spotlight,” she said.

“I spent a bit of time in children’s hospitals growing up — seeing so many unwell and disabled children, and just how resilient they are, absolutely changed my life.

“It was the most grounding and inspiring thing to see even a glimpse into their lives, getting to know them and their families. They’d never ask for a thing, and they’re some of the most deserving people.”

CEO David Armstrong

Cahoots CEO, David Armstrong explains that the Central Park Plunge will support so many children and families living with a disability in WA.

“Participation in the Central Park Plunge will help support Cahoots’ life-enhancing camps and adventures for more than 300 families and young people living with a disability every year,” he said.

“By being a Cahoots fundraiser, you are part of something truly special, a collective community of like-minded people making a difference in your local community.

“Our team is here for all our plungers every step of the way, helping, supporting, fundraising, reaching their target, cheering and celebrating their success.”

Whether you want to take the plunge for yourself, rope a team of coworkers into the event (pun intended), or donate to support the amazing work done by Cahoots, get all the information you need on the Cahoots website.

Help us, help others

No matter how small, your contribution goes towards helping Cahoots lower the costs for families using our services. Whilst we are NDIS funded, there is often a shortfall between the funding and the cost of our activities, so your donations mean families can still send their loved ones to our camps and programs.

For many, Cahoots is a life changing experience for both the participants who grow, learn and enjoy themselves, but it also provides respite to parents and families from the demands of full time care. Anything you can spare is greatly appreciated.
